We invite all people in our communities to join us for Walk for Water and help make a difference in the lives of people around the world, who walk miles for clean water every day. You can help The Rotary Clubs of Estero, Bonita Springs Noon and Bonita Springs, along with our NGO water engineers of Water Missions International (watermissions.org).
We are organizing a three-year, $750,000 Clean Water and Sanitation project in Santa Eulalia, Guatemala that is partially funded by our Rotary clubs, our Rotary district and Rotary International. It is a rural mountainous region of the indigenous Mayan Indian peoples. Our project will bring filtered, chlorinated water to their hospital, to common areas and finally to every home. Every home will also receive an eco friendly latrine. People will receive three years of hygiene training and will also learn about water conservation. In order to reach our goal and awareness of this environmental issue, we are organizing a community fundraiser – Walk for Water.
To participate, the cost of entry is $20 per family, or $10 for individuals. This is a Fun, Family Awareness event we know you will enjoy. Walk for Water will give you and your family an experience of that daily journey in Guatemala. Upon arrival at the YMCA (Bonita Springs), you will be handed empty buckets. You will walk down Kent Road and down the Nature Walk path to the Imperial River kayak landing. You will fill your buckets with water and walk back to the YMCA to dump your water in the retention pond. This is the distance that parents and children walk every day for fresh water in this region of Guatemala. Buckets will be provided. Purified Bottled Water will be available to you at the end of your journey. There will even be a Guatemalan Marimba band to entertain us. Thank you for supporting our efforts! Come out and have a good time and bring your friends! Please email your plans to participate to: firstname.lastname@example.org Additional donations welcome.
