Rotarian Jay Berube reports that our club is currently working to develop a school in Canabaj, Guatemala. Our district 6960 has raised $9,000 for this project. District 6970 has $5,000 raised, $2,000 of which is coming from student efforts at the University of North Florida, bring the overall total to $14,000 to help educate children, promote literacy, and develop a sustainable community.
We are also in the midst of a water filter project and Rotarian David Langendorder has coordinated 3 Rotary clubs to contribute $2,300. Additionally, the Oceanside club in Jacksonville has also committed $3,000 towards this project. This project will be an international matching grant through District 6970 for the 2012 year. This is $5,300 which will be matched by District 6970 to equal $10,600. This will then be matched by Rotary International to equal $21,200. At $65 each for a water filter, this should bring us to roughly 326 water filters.
